Under RPG info, there is a topic 'How to gain power'.

Maybe I'm new so I'm not understanding how to do this correctly, yet. But there is no area to reply to the topic. Yet...there is no symbol on it to show it's a locked topic.

So...is it locked or not? Help??

You know, since the RP is currently my baby you could've just came to me instead of posting here. Really big alternative and its actually a BETTER alternative. Keep that in mind from now on.

Now, the reason that several portions of the rules are locked is BECAUSE I don't want you all posting in there. It tells you everything that you need to know, its very simple to understand and I don't want you all posting in there.

Sorry, I'm not sure on where to post yet. I just got confused because it didn't have the 'lock' bar on the dragonball, like it normally shows when something's locked. Plus, on the bottom, it said you can post. So, that's why I didn't understand. Sorry.

But since you're here...can I ask a question on a rule that you posted on power gaining? I happen to be a person who likes writing a lot. And in the very first category, you were talking about PL word count (each word is 1 point). But after which, you mentioned the total word count between everyone gets divided by the amount of posters.

Well, my question is: if you have a person who let's say posted 1000 words, and then you had some guy jump in and posted 20 words. Well, if that's divided evenly between the two, then basically that's not really fair for the person who busted butt typing 1000 words. So, what does this game site do to protect the people who've been working hard writing a lot from people who just jump into a topic to gain points? Is there a ruling on that?

Oh ho ho, I see you haven't read the rules on that all the way. For a person to get any sort of PL from a topic besides a training post, they have to post a minimum of 300 words on their end to even get anything out of it. Its to help out people who aren't exactly all that up to posting.

And also, if you find yourself with someone who doesn't contribute as much as you'd like, you can simply make the decision not to RP with them again.

I understand you're trying to help people who don't post too much, but don't you think that's also unfair for the people who did all that typing in the first place?

My concern is if I end up typing up let's 1000+ words, and someone else puts in their minimum...basically in a sense they're robbing me of my words points. What's to inspire me to bother typing as much as I do? What I'm saying is this rule will only discourage people like me from typing very much.

Here...let's say you got 3 people in a group. I type 1000 words. The other two people are minimalists because they don't see the point of typing a lot because of the 'charity for minimal posting rule' and only type a 300 word count and ditch. Well, that means I'm getting robbed half my word count points? Why bother? I might as well follow their lead and only limit my own posting to 300, as well.

I just think you should let people who type more get more. Would that not encourage people to 'want' to get more involved in the rpg, by typing more?

Onis...can you really control who you can and can't rp with? I mean, if you're on an open posting and already rping with one or two other people, and someone simply jumps in to harass one of the characters there and leaves. How do you control that? I just want to make sure fair on both sides. It's great to help the little guy, but you don't want to do it at the expense of those that get really involved in the game.

Hey, don't think for a second that you're the only PL whore on the site. Guys like me, Phanny, Leo and Onis go big because that's what we do. Its all we do to be honest. But we're not selfish with it because we want everyone to get a piece of it as well. We want them to get involved, and in that aspect its fair in my eyes. Sure we feel just how you're feeling, but you know what else? We build a bridge and we get over it.

PL whoring has become an issue in the past, so we're trying to turn that wrong into a right. Its basically a way of giving back instead of taking away. An RP does not revolve around one sole person but as a community. The rules are in place in order to benefit the community and we function as one too. An RP that revolves around one person is an RP that dies before it starts - we learned that one the hard way.

And its called listing the topic under private in the topic description below the topic name. We have what you call "courtesy". If you don't want that person in your topic just say so. If they tell you otherwise, then just let one of the RP staff know and we'll clear it up.

I was just wondering if there's a better way to do it than that. Again, I understand that there's people out there that can't type well. And I wouldn't call myself a 'PL whore' just because I want to hold onto the points I feel I earned.

The part that bothers me is the fact that if I'm the largest typer in the story section I'm typing, that makes everyone else that are smaller typers leaches, in a way. I mean, if I wasn't a large typer and I knew that I was sucking away points from someone else's hard work, I'd feel kinda bad about it.

But, what if you ended up rewarding someone per post, instead of per word? If you gave a flat rate PL reward per post, I personally think that would make it more fair for both the small and the large typer. I wouldn't be upset because I wouldn't feel I was being robbed of points. And the smaller typer would still be happy because they wouldn't 'have' to type a lot to get their points. At the same time, it would encourage people to interact more, because the more posts you have the more points you get. I think that would be fair for everyone. What do you think?

Oh trust me, we know PL whores when we see them. Its not uncommon and its no big deal.

Right now at this point in time everyone is able to post a satisfactory amount per post, more than enough to make your request a deficit rather than a benefit. We might try that if we have too many people posting very very little, but for now its only...what? One or two? But here's what I told a newbie on BurstFire Legacy.

If you spend all your time asking instead of doing then you'll never be able to enjoy things in life. Just play the RP already, you'll see for yourself.

Actually, I already have started playing. But I was told I can't double up on my posts and no one else as replied to me yet. So...I'm kind of stuck.

No, you want to know the main reason it bothers me? I'll tell you why it bothers me. I am just so sick of this happening everywhere, nowadays! Rich people have to pay more taxes, because somehow that is supposed to help people that don't have as much money. Sports teams have to not beat the other side as hard because it might hurt their feelings. Kids who don't do as good in their grades in class get a participation trophy, just so they feel better they didn't as good as the other kids. This PC crap is killing us! And now I have to see it even here on a game website. It's just pathetic! The poor kids here are so sensitive, we wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings because they can't type worth a crap!

And it's not helping them. How are they supposed to get any better in writing, if people are coddling them saying, 'It's okay if can't type worth a garbage! We'll just give you free power points so you feel better!'

Anyway...that's why it bothers me. I come to the game world to escape from reality, and find the same problems here I find in the real world. It sucks!

Forgive me for saying this, and I don't mean to be an asshole about this, but with that kind of attitude you'll end up rubbing some people here the wrong way. The truth is that you can never escape reality no matter how hard you try. Its here in the game world and its out there beyond the screen.

If you have too many problems with how things are with the RP then don't play and log out. If you feel butthurt, then go and play some Skyrim. Just hope that you don't take any arrows to the knee.

No, you're right. You are 100% right. This is a question and suggestion thread, not a place to complain. I'm a PL whore, also. People call me it all the time. Guess what? I don't get butthurt about it.

I'm sure we don't mean to come off as unwelcoming, and I agree you have a point, but we've changed our entire RPG system so many times we're simply tired of doing it again. We've had like 4 different ones with resets in the past few months.
